Doesn’t that sound exciting? We do it and you can, too. We’ll show you how.

We help speakers, authors, trainers, consultants, filmmakers, videographers, coaches and experts in all kinds of topics produce, market and sell special interest videos so that they can share their knowledge, expertise, training, … and vision in a bigger way … make more of an impact … reach more people … and increase their income doing what they love to do.

  • Are you a filmmaker who wants to produce and sell your films but you’re frustrated by the hurdles and hassles of traditional distribution? You know, you don’t have to have a distributor pick your film up to get it seen… and sold.
  • Are you a videographer looking for ways to use your equipment and expertise to supplement your service-based business or maybe you’d like to work on a video on something that you are really passionate about? You have the skills and equipment so you’re already halfway there. We’ll take you the rest of the way.
  • Are you a speaker, coach, entrepreneur or expert on a topic who wants to share your knowledge with a wider audience via video, while enjoying long-term, residual income from your work?
  • You can potentially sell thousands of videos for many years. Imagine how good that passive income will feel.
  • Imagine checking your email and seeing that you’ve been making money while you slept, went out to dinner or were on vacation.
  • Now imagine that you’re delivering these videos digitally so you don’t even have to ship anything. The money just appears in your bank account.
You’re here because you’re interested in doing something that you find fulfilling and financially rewarding, right?

Maybe you want an exciting new full-time career or perhaps you just want to supplement your income for now. Maybe you’re just curious about what this special interest video thing is all about. Are you a professional videographer looking for new ways  to make money with your experience and video gear?  Regardless of your reasons, we’re glad you are here, and we can help.

So what are “Special Interest Videos” and why would you want to produce them?

Special Interest Videos (SIVs) are simply videos that appeal to a group of people who have a shared interest in the topic. The larger the group, such as people who like fly fishing or golf, the better your chances of being successful selling to them. However, even small special interest groups can be very lucrative markets. Imagine selling car care videos to Ferrari owners. Don’t you think that market would pay a premium price for information? You betcha!

We like to use the term “non-fiction videos.” SIVs are differentiated from the movie and pure entertainment category like the book publishing differentiates novels from non-fiction books. Other terms used to describe these types of programs are educational, instructional or how-to videos.

SIV topics can include:

  •  Career development skills
  • Educational videos for schools
  • Documentaries
  • Nature programs
  • “Kidvid”
  • Safety
  • Health & fitness
  • Tutorials
  • Travel
  • Cooking
  • Training
  • Biographies
  • Hobbies of all kinds
  • Money making opportunities
  • Small business
  • Tutorials (such as music, computers, etc.)
  • Weight loss
  • and infinitely more.

Don’t think that SIVs have to be big, sexy, exciting topics or complex productions to be successful. We’re not talking Hollywood productions here. I (Rick Smith) made my first video around 1981 on “The Elements of Pruning.”  It was a simple program about why and how to prune shrubs and trees. That video is still selling today, almost 30 years later, at a now reduced price of $80 per copy. It sold thousands of copies at $125 each and more to schools, libraries, landscape companies and parks departments! That simple video production has earned hundreds of thousands of dollars over its lifetime and since pruning practices won’t change much, so it’ll sell for many more years.

My point is that almost any topic is fair game. You just have to know how to pick the right topics before investing your time and money in a project. If you have a hobby or burning interest in a subject, chances are there are other people who share your interest and they are potential customers for your videos.

Don’t worry about this being complicated. You can produce SIVs with the most basic video equipment. We’ll even show you how to produce successful videos without using a camera at all. Keep in mind that it’s the content people are buying. They want information and you can provide it in your videos.

So who buys Special Interest Videos?

Here is a partial list of people, businesses and organizations I have personally sold special interest videos to:

  • Assisted living centers
  • Bookstores
  • Clubs
  • Community colleges
  • Elementary schools
  • Gift shops
  • High Schools
  • Historical societies
  • Hobby shops
  • Hobbyists in all areas
  • Homeschoolers
  • Hospitals
  • Individuals
  • Insurance companies
  • Junior High Schools
  • Long term care facilities
  • Museums
  • Non-profit organizations
  • Pre-Schools
  • Prisons (they use them for job training)
  • Public libraries
  • School libraries
  • Small business owners
  • Specialty schools
  • Specialty libraries like medical, agricultural and law libraries
  • Trade schools
  • Training departments for corporations
  • Universities, both private and public

There is literally no limit to the potential market for SIVs. With the arrival of technology that delivers high quality video online to the rapidly expanding base of mobile users with smartphones and tablets, in addition to selling DVDs, the demand for content is far greater than it has ever been and that demand will continue to grow. There has never been a better time for creative entrepreneurs to enter the special interest video production business. Exciting isn’t a big enough word to describe the potential of this booming industry.
